This less than ten years old developer home  had been conceived with an unfortunate combination of faux-Victorian exterior and contemporary with craftsman accents interior.  The owners, who had purchased the building for its size and location rather than its looks, had already remodeled the landscape on their own but needed help with the exterior remodel.  Re-imagining the disproportionate and convoluted front facade into a clean and contemporary one became a process of strategic elimination and surgery. Unnecessary dormers and appurtenances were removed and the front reading room cut back to allow for a full width covered front porch.  Without altering the main roof lines and keeping the most of existing windows in place we stripped the building down to the sheathing and re-clad with a combination of integral color stucco (reducing the amount of pigment to give it the appearance of concrete), ipe rainscreen and a standing seam zinc roof.
